About: The Piano Camp is designed to help young Emirati students prepare for the 1st Steinway Piano Competition, develop their skills as pianists and musicians, and overall take their creative journey to the next level. The event will take place several times a week for 6 months. Top piano, music history and theory teachers, pianists, and other musicians will share their knowledge, skills, and experience with participants. The event will be held in collaboration with Dubai Culture and Arts Authority at various locations across the UAE.
Objective: The Piano Camp plays a pivotal role in the lead-up to the piano competition, providing a nurturing and educational environment for participants. It aims to enhance participants’ skills, knowledge, and confidence, equipping them with the tools needed to excel in the upcoming competition.
Program: The program encompasses a variety of enriching activities designed to enhance participants’ musical skills and knowledge. These include group piano lessons, master classes, student recitals, group lectures, seminars, and engaging assignments. These elements collectively contribute to the comprehensive learning experience at the Piano Camp, ensuring that students are well-prepared and successful in their musical journey.
Format: For a duration of 6 months, students will participate in group piano lessons with their assigned instructors twice a week. Additionally, they will attend group lectures and seminars, which will be held a few times a month, as well as master classes and recitals once a month. All Piano Camp students will be invited to attend concerts at Steinway Hall in Dubai and at various concert venues throughout the UAE.
Lecturers: Steinway artists, Emirati composers and musicians, local professors, pianists, and music teachers.
For enrolment in the Piano Camp, every Emirati student with a musical background is required to complete an application form and provide a short video demonstrating their musical performance, recorded within the last six months and not exceeding 10 minutes in duration. Applicants may perform one or several pieces from the classical piano repertoire up to the 21st century, as well as Arabic/Emirati music or pieces in the style of Oriental music. In the video, applicants should announce their full name, age, and the piece or pieces they will perform. If applicants cannot announce themselves, their parents or music teacher may assist them. Applicants should ensure that their hands, faces, feet, and the keyboard are visible in the recording. The video should be captured in one continuous shot without edits or alterations and uploaded to YouTube. An appointed committee will review all videos and select up to 20 applicants to participate in the Piano Camp.
