The number 8 symbolises great luck, so only 8 grand pianos and 8 upright pianos of each wood are passionately handcrafted with respect for nature at the Steinway Factory in Hamburg.
The design of the MASTERPIECE 8X8 grand and upright pianos is clear, modern and direct. In addition, a colour concept was developed for each instrument in perfect harmony with its respective wood.
Maple bolt, oak, eucalyptus, Macore bolt, olive, Santos rosewood — chrome fittings were chosen for the light to medium-dark woods, and the cast-iron top also captivates with its elegant silver tone. American walnut, Macassar ebony — the darker structure of these woods is accentuated by warm rose gold-coloured design elements.
The numbered plaque that each Masterpiece bears perfectly fits the concept — as does the metallic grey Tahiti or iridescent rose-coloured South Sea pearl in the MASTERPIECE logo.
Each Masterpiece 8X8 comes with a high-quality writing instrument designed by Hamburg–based designer Jan Zander exclusively for Steinway & Sons.
Individually handcrafted by Zander from the original solid woods of the collection, the design corresponds to the look of the instruments and once again underlines the passion and attention to detail that go into them. The design of the clip harkens back to a Steinway patent from 1880 and employs the shape of the screws of the pressing device developed at that time, still used today to bend the grand piano case.
After the success of our innovative dolce pedal, Steinway & Sons are happy to introduce another highlight to lovers of the upright piano seeking out tasteful design, the finest craftsmanship, and the inimitable Steinway sound: the Limited Edition MASTERPIECE 8X8.
The MASTERPIECE 8X8 is eight elegant veneers limited to eight upright pianos each. The sixty-four upright pianos are handmade in the Steinway Factory and are notable for their rarity and uniqueness. Whether radiant Figured Sycamore, magical Oak, extravagant Eucalyptus, exotic Figured Macore, charismatic Olive, expressive Santos Rosewood, powerful Macassar Ebony or noble American Walnut — enthusiasts of design and quality are sure to find their favourite upright in such distinguished company.
Each upright piano is not only characterized by the fine veneers but also by harmonious colour down to the last detail. The iron plate and fittings are finished in silver or rose-gold colour. A pearl lovingly set by hand into the keyboard and the numbered medallion further codifies the beauty and uniqueness of each upright. Included with every Steinway Masterpiece 8X8 upright piano is a roller-ball pen handcrafted by Hamburg–based designer Jan Zander using the original veneers of the respectiveinstruments.
